I can't afford to buy a lot of rifles (college student), so the adaptability/versatility of the AR-15 made it a smart buy. By purchasing an AR, I have a gun with relatively inexpensive ammo, which can be used for target shooting, home defense, or SHTF.

1. I've wanted one since I was 14, the first time I ever saw one.
2. I hunt with it. Hog, deer, you name it.
3. Fun and easy to shoot, and cheap ammo.
4. One of the most reliable and customizable weapons ever.
Now I can out shoot all my friends. In speed and accuracy.

My AR is just a fun gun to shoot. I have a vanilla Colt with no optics, Tac Lights, etc. With the Std Ghost rings its pretty darn accurate. I do not hunt and I'm not yet into competitive shooting but paper fears me.

Because it is an American made work of mechanical art.
Because It is adaptable to whatever situation you need it for ie. hunting, self defence or just ****s and giggles.
Because it ticks the anti guys off.
Because it gives my govenment a moment of pause.
Because anybody that thinks they might want to invade the US know that behind every bush and down every street there is going to be Americans carring Black Rifles.

I shot my buddies AR years ago and thought it was fun and all but I didn't want to spend a lot of $$ on one. Then a few years ago, a friend told me about someone he knows that bought a house at auction and it came with whatever was inside. Well there was a Bushmaster in there that the guy didn't want. I made him a ridiculous offer ($200) and he took it! No way I could pass that up especially as it had an Aimpoint on it! I've since gotten a 450 Bushmaster upper and love it. With the 223 upper, it's a really fun and accurate gun. Good for SHTF and Zombie apocalypse and I can't believe how accurate the 450BM is and how powerful it is. Makes it a truly adaptable gun.

Because it's fun. And if the SHTF, your pistol is there to get you to your rifle.

I have mine because I shot a friends and fell in love with it, I have the Smith and Wesson M&P 15 and it's smooth shooting... I'm ready for when SHTF, defense, or whatever feels the need to come face to face with it...
But seriously I think the question should have been Why don't you have an AR?! I am curious to see those crazy reasons
