One thing I'm seeing though that's dampening my spirits is that the price of .223 is pretty much double that of .45 and even more so over .40 or 9mm. Why are the AR15s so popular?? thx for any input
What do you mean double that of a .45,.40, 9mm? Are you talking about ammo price? If so it depends on what you buy. There is ammo out there $5-$35 per 20.

I think a better question would be: "What's not to like about the AR platform??

Grown up Lego's. That is what an AR is. You can built just about anything you can think up. From a 7 or 10" barreled SBR to a 26" barreled 600 yard accurate varmint blaster. I am thinking of putting one together in 6-223 and shooting F-class with it. I want a 28" 1:7 twist barrel throated for 115gr Berger 6mm bullets.

Only just started checking and the price at the LGS was 15 bucks for 20 rounds (it said match on it) Tough when a box doesn't even fill one mag. They have .45 for about $23 for 50. Thx for the opinions!

That's why. Hornaday match ammo is for competition shooting. That is polymer coated steel. Anything from hornaday is going to be on the expensive side. .45 is the same way. High quality .45 loads are going to be about $40-$50 for 20 rounds. Just regular target loads for .223 are going to be $5-$10 for 20 and $20-$30 for 50 in .45.

.223 is actually extremely cheap as long as your not using hunting loads for target practice. About the only thing cheaper than .223 is .22lr

There must be something good with the AR platform, if most of the major gun companies in Germany are utilizing it. Germans are known for their practicality and quality workmanship. They chose the platform for that reason. The world seems so right, and I reach a certain zen when firing my Hera Arms AR. Everything works like it is suppose to, and I hit were I want the round to go to. There are actually competitions with semi-auto sports rifles. Sig, HK, Oberlunds, Schmeisser, Hera Arms are all represented there. Shooting my new AR reminds me of the first time I drove a friends Porsche, it is just magical. Sorry for rambling.

The quality of firearms is in a greater demand when you want to buy a gun for your daughter
