It's illegal to deer hunt in KS with anything smaller that a 23 cal.

223 is legal here in NC but I prefer to use a larger round. I'm glad you have had good sucesss this season, though.

Here in Michigan it's legal to use a .223/5.56 caliber, you just have to have a 5 rounder and all center fire rifles must be north a certain line of the state, basically north of Grand Rapids.

I'm not sure if I would get away with a cut off mag verses a designated 5 round mag, who knows with these laws

Well in MS there's a 3 round rule for shotguns when bird hunting. They don't care if it's an original plug in the gun, a pencil, or even just a stick. As long a it only holds 3, it's legal. I would like to think it's the same with rifles in your location.

I have been debating on hunting with my 5.56 here in NC, I haven't yet, because I don't have a scope. I have a EoTech and cannot hope for accurate head shots with it, I believe in heart/lung shots but do not want to wound/prolong the suffering of a deer. I am not against deer hunting with AR's but I would try for the head shots. Maybe next year.

Sad as it is.

A 77gr smk will do it out to 300 yards easy.

Nathantc 11-16-2011 06:06 AM

i just aim between the eye and ear, they dont even flinch, just drop where they stand, but i dont know if it would work for a heart or lung shot. has any one tried this with .223/5.56:confused:
