Default What to do with my PSA stipped upper?

After completing a couple of lower assemblies, I am ready for the next step of assembling an upper.

I don't reload, yet, so I want a caliber that is readily available. I have enough rifles that cost $1 - $2 per round. I am leaning towards a 7.62 x 39 due to availability of inexpensive ammo.

Anybody know where to get a 7.62 x 39 barrel?

Bushmaster is out of stock.

Olympic assembles lowers in 7.62 x 39, but I cannot find the barrel only on their website.

Brownells sells High Standard barrels, but I cannot find a lot specs. on it.

I have not done any business with Model 1 sales but;

Model 1 Sales: 7.62x39 C.A.R. Barrel

Also you might look into the 300 blackout for a build. (google 300 blackout or 300 BLK)

Thanks for the barrel link.

I don't see any .300 blackout on the store shelves. I have heard it is a good round.

It's just now starting to come out. Most of it is subsonic 200gr. There will be quite a few reloaders for this round. It's just a necked down .223 case opened a bit for the .30 cal bullet.

Remington who is the main manufacturer, is reporting that the stores will be in supply of supersonic ammo by the end of October. Hornady will be manufacturing the round also, along with a couple others who are going to get into it. The supersonic ammo is supposed to retail at $12.99/20, and the 220 gr. subsonic about $22/20.

I'm looking at a 16" barrel and upper assembly with the carbine length gas system. I don't foresee me having a suppressor or shooting subsonic. I'll probably order it in the next month.

The next couple weeks will see some match ammo for the .300BLK then a month or so from now UMC is releasing some FMJ that I was told should range around $11-$12 per 20. The match ammo will run $34 per 20. CMMG has some 147gr for $179 per 200 on their sight. The next couple, 3 months should be good for the .300BLK.

Steel 7.62x39 isnt any cheaper than Steel 5.56 and x39 brass cased ammo is actually more expensive than 5.56 brass ammo.

Give www.DeltaCompanyArms.com a look. I've been very impressed so far w/ my limited exposure (under 200 rds).

So now we have Delta Company too. Whatever happened to Charlie? Nice AR, MJ.

I also am very interested in the 300BLK. Not so sure a 7.62x39 AR build is such a great idea as they can be troubleprone - and also when you can get an AK in that caliber for $400 which you know is gonna work. How about 5.45x39?

Thanks for the input & info on the 300 BLK. I am not in a great rush, so I will investigate it some more before I decide what to do.

AK 47's and I do not fit ergonomically.

silencertalk.com and m4carbine.net have a wealth of info on the 300BLK if you really want to do some reading. I put in a month or more researching before I placed my order. I also had a lengthy conversation w/ Delta Co. Arms going over the specs. Time well spent.

Edit: the BLK is much softer shooting than the 7.62x39.
