Trust me I had to hump around 3 weapons most of the time it is no fun. I am trying to advise you to stick to one role per rifle its not a swiss army gun one role will allow you to maximize efficiency in that area whereas trying to do it all will make it mediocre at best.
I am also an iraq vet. I was a scout sniper and carried the mk 12 around full time. I also carried a m40a5. Sure the rifle he has maybe a little on the heavy side but it can be a great dual purpose rifle. I don't believe he is trying to make a "swiss army" rifle. Just a mk12 clone. No need for ragging on a civi for his version of a rifle.
