Default What Cal?

Out of .458 socom, .450 bushmaster, and 30-06 springfield what does the most damage to its target? I am looking at getting a Remington R-15 .450 Bushmaster or the Bushmaster .450 Rifle, but if the .458 socom or the 30-06 springfield is more powerful I will get one of them instead of the .450 bushmaster. From what I understand I can change the upper reciever to a .458 socom.

Is it greatest to least:
.458 socom
.450 bushmaster
30-06 springfield

Thanks,
Charlie

I'd not use a hunting rifle for home defense, unless it is a shotgun. Too much risk of it traveling through the target and through a wall as well, possibly endangering others.

A lot of it depends on just WHAT you're hunting. You want a manageable caliber, and we don't shoot squirrels with .50 calibers. Well, not if we want anything left of it.
What I'd hunt down south with for deer is different that what I'd hunt yankee deer with, simply due to the size of them.
Bigger isn't always better. Range you're shooting at is also a factor, since some calibers have a flatter trajectory, thus, more accurate over range, but less stopping power at distance, whereas others fly almost like a football pass, and 'drop' into the target.
There's a ton of variables that one should address when determining what they want. Boom or buck? I'll take the buck, so I can grill that puppy.

.458
Caliber is based on inches I believe. .22 and .223 are a shade less than a quarter inch, .50 is a half inch, .45 is just a bit less than half an inch. and so on. The named caliber isn't always the EXACT dimension of the bore though. For instance the .357 mag and .38- neither are exactly 357\1000 or 38\100 of an inch.

But between a .450 and .458, the .458 should be bigger. But your talking about 8\1000 of an inch, so does it matter? Do a little research and find out the bullet weights and velocities, that is probably where you will find the biggest differences between the two.

Thank you. I think I will go with the .450 bushmaster. I am buying a Smith and Wesson M&P .40 cal first then I am going to get the rifle. From what I understand Bushmaster bought out Remington. Is this correct and both are made in the USA right? Do you use regular AR-15 magazines for the .450 bushmaster? I want a mag that hold more rounds than just 5. If yall have some links to some websites that sell mags for the .450 bushmaster could yall post them? I prefer them to be made in the USA.

I don't know anything about Bushmaster buying out Remington. I believe they are both with Freedom Group though. But I think most of both of their products are made here too.

M&P .40 is a good gun, I'm sure you'll like it.
