What is the BEST....

Hah! I bet you though this was another "what's the best ar15" thread!

It's not, chill out.

I do, however, want to know what your opinion are on the best .22lr conversion kit for my PSA Ar15. Looking for something that is reliable, stovepiping every five rounds isn't acceptable.

This doesn't need to be a single manufacturer if there are several that you would put at the top spot, I'm just looking for others opinions.

Let me have it!!!

the only conversion that runs as flawless as a ruger 10/22 are the cmmg kits.

but there is a caveat....

ar15 barrels the twist rate is waaaay to fast for a 22lr even the 1:12 twists. with those kits you only get 18-20 yards max before the bullet is all over the place. those kits are strictly extremely short range.

best bet is a dedicated 22lr upper or even better spring for the s&w mp 15-22

the other thing is the lead gets vaporized and comes right back through the gas sytem into your face and the insides of your gun. even the plated stuff is still a health hazard. ive got a kit but i dont run it anymore because of the lead exposure issue. definately dont let your kids shoot it.

in a regular 22lr rifle all the vaporized lead is going out the muzzle and isnt a factor.

This  My M&P 15-22 had 6 malfunctions in the first 50 rounds and then ran flawlessly through 950 rds. Even rapid fired 3 mags within 2 min. and the barrel could still be touched with my hand without a trip to the emergency room for burn treatment :p. It allows me to train for cheap and have a ton of fun while doing it. Also went this route because i did not want to have to clean the rimfire garbage out of my centerfire lower but that's just me

M&P15-22 then the CMMG dedicated upper. It was rough going for a hundred or so rounds but a lot of fun now.

JonM 05-15-2012 02:23 AM

my mp15-22 went 3500ish rounds without cleaning before i had a fail to extract. i generally dont clean my 22's until they fail to feed or fail to extract

if you go with the CMMG bolt kit dont even bother trying to use cheapo remington ammo , it will not cycle with that junk . I have had good luck with winchester 333, 555 , federal ammo and CCI everything else is junk . I have a 1:7 twist barrel and its decent out to 30 yards with the winchester ammo , beyond that its all over the place .
Cheap fun and it doesnt take long to unload a 25 rd mag thru it .

This is also true for my Colt M4 .22lr. It hates Remington Golden Bullet and loves Federal, Win value packs and CCI. I understand the M&P15-22 does too.

It's interesting how different .22s like/dislike ammo.

My 10-22 shoots Remington golden bullet ammo better than anything else I've tried. (And I think I've tried 'em all:D)

My Browning challenger is most accurate with CCI Stingers !

Go figure!

Interesting, must be a Ruger thing because my Mark I, II and III all like GB but the Colt hates it.
