What is it good for defensively or militaristic? I just have a couple of rounds but I want to know when should I used this kind of round. Thanks in advance.

The green tip differentiates it from the 55 gr rounds (M193??) used in the earlier 1 in 12 twist A1 barrels. If you have a faster barrel you should be ok. Steel core gives better penetration and local ranges may not permit its use. Otherwise use is same as for any other 5.56mm round although use of any .223 or 5.56 for HD is not recommended

Been working pretty good for home offense for a while. But yeah, a 12 ga makes for a little better weapon for that.

Green tip M-855/SS-109 ammo has a small steel "penetrator" under the tip. It is not armor piercing, just "enhanced". It was designed to penetrate light armor (steel helmets) at extended ranges. A standard 62 gr FMJ will perform pretty much the same at closer ranges (less than 200 yds). What is it good for? Plinking or SHTF, not much more IMHO.

Will this kind of ammo be more effective against level 4 ceramic plates since the have that steel core?. You know how some ceramic plates have a 3,4,6, etc breaking point.
