PSA sells a good barrel their chrome lined cmv and cold hammer forged barrels are made by Fabrique Nacionale "FN", a military contractor. Good price too. Hp mp tested too.

Daniel defence. BCM. Are always a good choice.

I've heard RRA makes a good barrel too. No personal experience tho. Ar15performance makes a good melonited barrel for a great price too.

Hey guys, thanks for the info so far. This build is mainly going to be a SHTF/range gun. I already have a 20" SS varmint gun so I am not going to need a custom barrel. It would be nice though.

So if BCM and PSA both get their barrels from FN, then I should be able to get the one thats less expensive and still be good to go, yes? Also, I saw a Daneils Defense barrel with a 1 in 9" twist. I thought they were all 1 in 7". Since all the ammo I have or that I generally see in stores in 55 or 62 gr. will the 1 in 9" give me more accuracy? Or should I just go with the 1 in 7"?

55gr will do better in a 1x9
62 steel core better in a 1x7

either will do fine in either for practical shooting.

I shoot 55 grain .223 in my 1:7 twist quite often, it won't win any national matches, but it prints pretty good at 100 yards.

I have decided to go with the PSA cold hammer forged 16" barrel. So now I need to know what tools I am going to need to get the job done. I have the punch set and other common tools. I am getting the armorers tool and the upper vise block. Are there any other specialty tools that I might need?

You will need a 0.5 inch torque wrench, but you can pick one up at Sears, auto parts store, Lowes, etc.

The Brownells essential AR15 kit is what I purchased, it has some doo dads that make assembling an AR lower a snap.
