Trim ring? Necessary?

Im purchasing parts to bring my rifle to about 90 percent completion and noticed that the Handgaurd has an optional Trim Ring. I asked my Gunsmith about it and he told me it was shooter preference.

Are Trim Rings necessary? or just for looks?

What kind of hand guard are you putting on and do you want the end to be open, or closed up??

They are preference to the shooter. Anyone that tells you they are necessary when you have a rail FULL of holes to get dirt and grime in anyways, is trying to sell you something.

I don't have one on either my platforms and both have free float tubes for what it's worth.

Midwest T9 9" handgaurd which will be mounted on a BCM mid-length upper with FSB

I guess it all depends on if you want the fore-end behind the muzzle to be open or not.

It's personal preference really. Some love it, some don't, some swear by it, some think it's a waste of money. *shrug*

YMMV
