...after months of reading, cruising this forum and watching YouTube videos, I'm finally ready to start my first build...

I like to support my local gun stores and am going to buy a lower from them and not online...

I found this Spikes Tactical lower at the shop nearby and was hoping I could get some feedback...

http://www.spikestactical.com/new/z/zombie-lower-w-standard-kit-no-stock-p-494.html

(I will only be buying the spikes lower receiver and not the other parts shown in the picture below)

Lower Specs

Spike's Tactical Lower Receiver

* CNC Machined from a 7075 T6 MIL-H-6088 Forging

* Low Shelf for RDIAS

* Milled Manufacturer Engravings

* Accepts .154" Diameter Trigger & Hammer Pins

* MIL-A-8625F Type III Class 2 Hardcoat Anodized Finish inside and out

Thoughts?

Spikes makes a quality lower receiver. If you like the logo and the price is right, buy with confidence.

Does anyone know who makes a REALLLLY good (CA compliant) parts kit?
I wanted to get the Daniel defense kit but they don't make a CA compliant one. =[

Several of my friends and I have used Spikes lowers for builds. They have been good lowers.

Check out Addax tactical for custom California AR uppers.

What's different in a CA LPK? Just the bullet button? Can you find that separate if not in a kit?

Where in Kommie are you?

According to Commie law as of this day, all LPKs are Kommie compliant for use with rimfires. Rimfires do not require and magazine lock/bullet button.

If you have a centerfire, you need to use a magazine lock (bullet button) My preference is the Radlock, as it takes all of 5 secs to unscrew it for use out of state (turn into a regular mag release with a small flathead) and turn back into a maglock in 2 seconds flat. Also, it's way easier to install than a standard mag release as this is virtually no chance of making an idiot mark.

No flash-hiders. Muzzle devices must be permanently attached. I thought they couldn't have bayonet lugs but I may be wrong.

California makes it kind of complex. You can have some "evil" features in your AR if you use a 10 round mag , and bullet button. Special stocks with no pistol grip. But if you want some of the good features of the AR you have to sacrifice other features.

I'll admit I'm not an expert or up to date in California law. Cal guns website has tables in legal configurations of AR and AK type firearms for California.

The logo creeps me out, so obviously it must be bad.

In the good ole PRK (Peoples Republic of Kommiefornia)

For Centerfires:

If you have a magazine lock or bullet button, you can use pistol grips (fore and aft) any muzzle device you want. You cannot use preban standard capacity magazines in this configuration.

If you go featureless, you can use a standard magazine release, can use preban standard cap magazines BUT you cannot have any pistol grips, no flash hiders, and no collapseable stocks.

Either way, you must have a barrel with a oal of 16" and a rifle with oal of 30".

There are different rules for rimfires like .22lr.
