Got mine together with no vice. Pay close attention and you may want to have a drink to steady your hands. All of the springs and detents are small and can fly across the room. You don't need a vise though. The hardest part I found was sliding in the front take down pin while compressing the spring and detent at the same time. It can be done pretty easily though.

go to your local gun shop they should have a whole slue of them. especially since your in texas and not kommiefornia like me and a few others. all of the bigger names are a safe bet. i went with one thats locally made. the price was right. i went down the road and the gun store had a sale. got 2 for 90 each. parts kit was 60. dont plan on doin alot of competitive shootin just a shtf and an fun gun something really reliable and good accuracy out to 150yards or so. im really thinkin about do a dissipator build... just to give you a idea or 2.

DPMS 223/5.56 Lower receiver : Semi-auto at GunBroker.com
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=187201963
Not the cheapest one out there, but it won't break the bank either. Buy it, have it shipped to the FFL in your area.
Or have the FFL in your area order one direct - pick whichever manufacturer you want
