Swapping BCGs

OK, just asking a somewhat noob question here...

I always thought that once a bolt/BCG was used in an upper with a barrel, that the parts would marry themselves together and shouldn't be swapped around?

but, then I see the 11 page thread about the BCG that's being sent from member to member here... now I'm confused.

is it ok to swap BCGs or not?

Yes. They are standardized parts. Swap away.

I know they're standardized parts, but what about wear? the parts may all start out the same, but I doubt they wear the same.

Just like a flat tappet camshaft in an old hot rod V8. the cams all start out the same, the lifters all start out the same, but after the cam has been broken in, the lifters are married to the cam, and if you take it out, you HAVE to put it all back into the same spot, or you risk wiping a cam lobe flat and having to rebuild the engine.

However, you can toss all the used lifters, and start with a fresh set of 16 lifters, re-do the cam break in, and you're ok.

I've read similar stories on the internet from various gun forums. basically that with an old barrel, a new bolt is ok, but you don't want to use old bolts on new barrels?

or is that all hogwash and you can swap away?

you can swap them. it just has a possibility of accelerating wear in the locking lugs on the bolt and chamber areas. i dont like swapping bolts around just because they break in to that gun over time but you can do it. its not like a bolt action or non ar15 type gun
