Stake it.

Give me a sec and Ill post a good article. Not exactly sure where it is but Ive recently read one.

Why you should stake:

http://m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=6993

http://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=22016

How to stake:

http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=2&f=130&t=160446

Or:

http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=GRT-M16C&reference=/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi%3Fsearch%3Daction%26keywords%3Dcarrie r%26searchstart%3D0%26template%3DPDGCommTemplates/FullNav/SearchResult.html

One good point made was to make sure your fasteners are properly torqued prior to staking.

So would it be worth me buying the tools and doing it myself or taking it to a gunsmith and letting him do

Looks like it gonna cost me about $120 to do the job properly dont know if I feel confident enough to do the job with a punch or chisel so probably get a MOACKS and guess im gonna need a way to check the torque like one of those fat wrenches, hate to spend the money on somethin im probably only gonna use once or twice thanks for the advice

Just a thought, but if it was going to cost me $120 to stake the Oly carrier key, I think I just upgrade to a new carrier/bolt assembly from BCM and drop it in.
BCM Bolt Carrier Group MPI Auto M16---$139.95

Post a picture of what you've got. Staking a gas key shouldn't be something you need a 'smith for. Hell, send it to me with return postage and I'll do it for you.

For $42 you can buy a carrier then just add your bolt.

http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin...rchResult.html

Then you'd have a spare carrier. A complete BCG from BCM would be nice though.

Seriously, you cover the ride here and back, I'll do it for you. I'm an engineer at an aerospace manufacturing company, quality control is my area of expertise. I have all the necessary tools at my disposal. Heck, I can even MPI (magnetic particle inspection) test it for you.
