They can be used for disassembly without marring her finish. (Take-down pins)

Get her dirty, then clean her so she starts to respect you. When her trust is complete, she will serve you well for a lifetime!

This may be a dumb question ... but.... that great looking rifle has a pistol grip, bayonet lug and a collapsible stock and I thought they were not allowed in CA? I thought that was why JDP had that weird AF rifle thing at the FTF Texas M&G. Just curious.

Hmmm? That's a great question, Scubie. Never noticed before where you live - what about that, Gloves!

LOL! Great question! This is 100% California legal. Here are the main points I have to follow:
  1. Fixed Magazine (can not be removed without a tool. tool = bullet to depress button)
  2. Limited to 10 round magazine (kinda, i heard there were some work arounds)
  3. Meets minimum barrel length (not sure what it is tho)

Basically, if you have a fixed/non-removable magazine you can have all
the other things you once thought were illegal on it.

Back to the bullet button: I paid a little bit more so that you can adjust
said button to be fully functional with your fingers if I decide to take it
to another (any-other) state.

I just finished reading this manual:
TM9-1005-319-10.pdf
<-- awesome info for an AR n00b like me. Anything else I should be reading?

Jo da Plumbr, Not only does the mag well have a large spider logo on it,
the bolt also has one on it. (more printed on that imprinted)

I'm such a n00b, I had no idea there were 2 apertures on the carry
handle. I'm going to suck at the range. going to be fun tho.

That's a 16" middy pictured so you meet the barrel length requirement. As far as zeroing the CH use the small aperture. Your Army TM probably says to zero at 25 meters and also get a 300m zero but you can zero at 50 or 100 yards as well. No worries, it's not that hard to do.

It's a magazine, it's a minor nitpicky thing, but it's a magazine not a clip.

3 things to help with zeroing.

1. Trigger control; slow and steady, don't jerk it back, it'll throw you off. Slow is smooth, smooth is fast.

2. Breath control, personally I always fire right after I exhale how there's that extra split second between exhaling and inhaling.

3. Maintaining the same good stock weld with your cheek, if you move around to much it can mess up your groupings (happens to me all the time when I go to qual.)

Anyone else care to post up the magic target that can help with identifying what can cause you to be off?

You can have high capacity magazines that are older / pre ban. But you cannot legally use them in your AR with the bullet button. That would make the rifle a fixed magazine of high capacity. With the featureless build I have the older mags are OK.

Stupid the BS we deal with here in CA.

Slowsrt4, you'll probably like it! (lot of people on this forum say they have
Spikes lowers, wonder why not the uppers?) I watched the guy build
mine in less than 20 min from a parts kit. It turns out you can do it really
fast if you have experience and all the right tools. And there were some
seriously custom tools involved.

Damn it Jo! I thought I could get away with one of them mag-part kits.

Ubergopher, i do know the difference, and i don't know how that word slipped.
Q: When I squeeze shots, I do it on the exhale but you are saying the pop
happens toward the end of the exhale?

Checked with the dealer today... the furniture still hasn't arrived from FL.

Let me change the subject to ammo for a second.
::AMMUNITION::
95% of my shooting will probably be with .223 55gr.
However I would like to try some official military 556 62gr.

I have seen some online at C-than-D, but you have to buy
one-THOUSAND-rounds (not against that amount). They are
quite a bit more per round than standard .55gr

1. Are they legal in CA? (The green tips have steel cores?)
2. How/where can I get a box of 20 to 100 at a time?

Just about any decent sporting goods store should have 62 gr. bulk grade ammo, like Wolf or whatever. I know Cabela's has their store brand, Herters, in 62 gr. The sell 20 round boxes here for $4.69 a box.
