Update on this conversation.

Took the Sig thru Maxvelocity tactical class (my second class)
Fired about 700 trouble free rounds of TulAmmo (!) in extreme winter weather (lots of snow came got got onto and into the rifle)

Didnt even have to set the gas setting on "adverse", no problems.
Even with 700 rds of dirty ammo the rifle looked fired inside but I wouldn't call it dirty.
Took apart the gas piston and while not sqeeky clean it clearly could have soldiered on w/o a cleaning for many many more rounds.

The bad: the spring tightened upper I enjoyed before has gotten loose. the spring must have lost its... spring..

I have 2 Sig M400s and the lower spring hasn't gone limp on me, that's not to say it won't though. I can't compare my Sigs to the LWRC or LMT or other high ends cause I've never owned or shot them, compared to Bushmaster, RockRiver, S&W, Armalite, and Colt I'll keep my Sigs. They made a good weapon. I'm really looking forward to getting a 516, I'm addicted.

I think you will find the SIG 516 very satisfying.

Maybe not quite as nicely finished as LMT and LWRC but certainly nicer than the list of rifles you mentioned.
Here is a pic of the SIG 516 held by yours truly on the beginning of Day 2.

EDIT: Aaargh didnt realize it would come out so small

Does anybody know how much of the Sig 516 bolt carrier group is proprietary and how much is standard? Trying to make so e decisions for potential back up stuff.

The BCG is proprietary. There are anecdotes about a friend of a friend who dropped in something else, and it worked, but I wouldn't make my decision to buy the rifle depend on that.

The 516 is durable. Not just my word, it's popular among LE agencies who like things that last. Source: ex owner, Certified 516 Operator.

the BCG itself does not interchange with DI guns ( tho I suspect it might interchange with a LWRC BCG despite the different look)

The entire bolt, (and everything thats in it) plus the firing pin, the firing pin retaining pin and the cam pin all interchange with DI guns.

So all wear items except the piston system spring and one roll pin in the gas system interchange with DI guns. Those 2 are wear items but it is not clear how soon they wear out.
The roll pin can easily be replaced with a same form a hardware store according to those who have done it (I have not)

The primary wear item left that is propriatory is the piston spring IMO...
Have not yet contacted SIG if they will sell the part
