Default shorten a rifle stock?

have fixed length ar10 stock. length of pull too long. anyone ever shorten one of these stocks. need about 1/2".

unless the company you purchased it from offers a collapsable carbine stock for your rifle i would say no.

the problem with the 308 caliber AR rifles is they are proprietary. they arent like the AR15 that have a fixed generic standard all companies build to.

with the AR10 type rifles they have a buffer tube that rides inside the stock for the full length so if you cut the stock down it will no long fit on the rifle.

JonM's right, there are so many incompatible AR-10 versions you have to find out what you have. Now if you actually have a regular A2 stock and receiver extension you can get an A1 stock and lose the spacer that's required for A2. That will shorten it about 3/4". You probably can go to a carbine RE and buffer then add a Sully or Entry stock which is much shorter (if you want to stay with a fixed stock).
The biggest issue with assembling an AR isn't so much getting the parts together right - it's getting the right parts together.
