Scope???

I bought a new Colt ar-15 a few months ago and am looking for a scope. I'm leaning towards a red dot and am hoping to spend under $100. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

spend about 150 for something like a Vortex strikefire, and you wont have to buy a scope a second time because the one under 100 dollars was chinese junk and never holds its zero. ;)

Actually I can get a deal on a vortex strikefire. Ill check it out.

Of all the affordable scopes out there, the Vortex has gotten many good reviews for what it is for the money. The NCstar, and all the other chinese scopes have a gazillion threads on their problems. There is one other scope for about 160 dollars that also has good reviews, but I can't think of its name right now. Sorry.

I second the Vortex Strykfire. It is an excellent scope for the money. I have since tried out several more expensive scopes that the Vortex has blown away. I think its the best buy for the money. It also comes with a doubler which I find works well. If you are looking for a scope under 100, I would just stick to iron sights. You aren't going to find anything under 100 worth spending money on.

The Strikefire is my favorite sub-$200 red dot optic. I don't think anything else comes close. If you decide to double your budget, the Vortex Sparc and Lucid HD7 might also be worth considering.

If you're intent on spending well under $200, there's really nothing else I'd look at beyond the Strikefire. But good luck finding them for much cheaper than $125. I bought two at an advantageous moment and paid maybe $260 for the pair. Have yet to regret that purchase for even a moment. Typical price is probably right around $170 per.

I have a $500 EoTech XPS2-0 that I like a lot and is worth way more 'cool' points at the range. But I can't say that it's dramatically better in any regard than the Strikefire...and it set me back more than 3X as much coin. I plan to plant the Lucid HD7 atop another of my rifles in a matter of days.

You will get severely varying opinions on optics. Some folks will claim you must spend 50-100% as much for glass as you did for your rifle. Others are happy enough to place a $150 optic on a $1400 rifle. Either is fine (it's your rifle), although I tend to lean in the direction of the latter. And since that seems to apply to you, I'd highly endorse the Strikefire.

Thanks Sweeper, the Lucid HD7 is the name of the other scope I couldn't think of at the moment of my initial post. :)

I've used my strikefire on my 458lott it holds zero through extreme abuse. If I do manage to break it vortex will fix or replace for free long as it exists. No questions. Check the warranty on whatever your buying you will find only vortex offers unlimited lifetime warranty.

I'd get a Vortex or Redfield in that price range ...

Many people will disagree with me here but I got the centerpoint 4-16x40 and its amazing scope for 70 at wal mart! Also has red and green illuminated cross hairs but can't see it much during day! The scope is extremely clear and holds zero with ease!! Just my opinion it's the best bang for the buck. A friend has this on his .308 and 200 rounds later still dead on. The magnify is so clear you'd really enjoy it. I know there's opinions like that won't hold up or that's to cheap to be good but I have proof on two rifles that its a good scope.
