SCAR-17S Cali. (FDE) ARRIVED TODAY
I realize this thread is useless w/o pictures. (there will be pictures) - camera phone is currently on the fritz.
Just picked up the SCAR-17S Cali. (FDE) 16.25" barrel.
It is everything I ever thought it would be!
Got to clean it out tonight so i can bring it to the range on the weekend.
Didn't realize that the lower is a polymer (plastic) and the the serial is printed on
the upper. I guess it makes sense that the lower is polymer, 90% of new pistol
designs seem to be doing that.
Since it's a Cali model the butt stock doesn't fold and there is a bullet button. =(
This rifle was clearly made for an optic as it's flip-up sights seem to be best
kept flipped down.
QUESTION: What optic do you recommend I mount?
This will mostly be used for the range and some hunting (boar, white tail etc.)

Congrats! I have to ask though. You spent all that money on a SCAR 17S and you didn't even know the lower was polymer? Was it an impulse buy?

Personally I swear by a nice 4x trijicon ACOG, but possibly an eotech or mepro if you want a red dot.
Never Forget.

+1 on a magnified optic. What distances do you anticipate?

I'd love to have the SCAR-17 .. In regards to your optic question, you have to ask what role your rifle is going to assume. generally speaking...
- close range (100 yds) holographic sight
- intermediate range (100yds - 300 yds) ACOG
-long range (400yds < ) Telescopic
Just a tip.. Always have back-up flip sights installed on your rifle

Dauntless Marksman - I fully intend to keep the flip-up sighs on.
Here are some pictures the wife took of HER rifle. She doesn't have a fancy ring, but a fancy gun now.
I don't see this rifle shooting further than 400 yards at a range and 250 yards when hunting.
As much as other people like the ACOG style scope, i'm not that big of fan.
Also not that big of a fan of a red-dot
For this rifle i would like something with lower power to medium.
Love this style, but i feel like the lower powers limit the range of the rifle.
1-4x20 Matte - M-223 - Riflescopes | Nikon Hunting
1.1-4x24 Matte - Monarch African - Riflescopes | Nikon Hunting
Love the power on this, but would like a smaller mm lens on the front:
2.5-8x28 EER Matte - Encore® - Riflescopes | Nikon Hunting
Something like this in this price range with a little more zoom power.
Leupold VX-II 1-4x20mm Rifle Scope w/ Matte Black Finish, Duplex Reticle 56700 Riflescope FREE S&H 56700. Leupold VX-II Riflescopes, Leupold Riflescopes.

Yes... a 10 month plus, multiple waiting list impulse buy.
Nobody in CA that I know of had one. Not even the 16.
Still haven't shot it, can hardly wait.

Haha.... Cool man! It looks pretty sweet.
Within 75 yards i'd say red dot. Anything more and I personally prefer a 4x ACOG.
Keep it updated with what you do.
EDIT: What will you be hunting with it?
