What's the general reputation of the sport? I'd like to buy an AR-15 but not for a grand.

Seems to be a pretty good deal for $600. For a little more you can do better. It all depends on what you want in an AR.

Just want something fun to shoot at the range, an AR w/ a good optic of some kind.

You can't go wrong with s&w m&p sport. I have one & I love it . I put over 1000 rounds through it with no problems. Do your research and see what a great rifle it is

1200 rounds of mixed weight ammo . No problems. Accurate beyound its price . Just a good solid rifle with nothing you don't need. Local price is just below 600 dollars.
