Ruger SR-556 Sling Options?

I have an as issued Ruger SR-556 that needs a sling. The collapsable butt stock has a built-in sling slot but it does not have a socket or other attachment point. Obviously, I can attach the forward point using a number of rail attachment options. I'd like to have an arrangement that is easy to remove when it's not needed. I have no plans for LE duty or MIL-duty use -- just a way to tote it around on the farm.

Thanks in advance for any experience or recommendations you may have.

Danny

It's an issued weapon but it's not an LE or Mil firearm?

What stock does it have?

Magpul ms2 convertible. It can go from a single point sling to a two point in about 1 .5 seconds

It has the standard, synthetic collapsable stock. Sorry if I was unclear in the "as issued" reference. Maybe I should have said, "stock" configuration.

Install a Magpul ASAP sling plate and get a Magpul MS2 sling

That was my fualt, I missed the "as" in "as issued".

I personally didn't like the MS2 and quickly sold it off. It was to thin and uncomfortable. The Vickers Blue Force padded slings are great.

Are you talking about a standard flat slot on the stock for the sling? A short piece of sling through it and wrapped around the tube then velcroed securely makes a good quick release attachment for a standard sling. Or you could find a QD mount that attaches there.

Curious, Ruger doesn't include a sling with a $1500 rifle?

lol.

I wonder if you could drill a hole in the stock just large enough for a QD swivel.

The velcroe idea sounds like a good option though.

I used this on the front, CQD front sling mount:
CQD Sling Mount - Front
Why did I choose it? It uses two bolts instead of the typical one which is a more secure hold on the rail.

then you can use a variety of slings.

I nowadays use a BlueForceGear VCAS padded sling with HK type hook.
