How is the Ruger SR 556?

Check the semi auto forum.

used to have one. i traded it for a 1903A3 springfield and DO NOT regret it.

my opinion its a total dud of an ar15. mainly because of the price point. ruger hung a bunch of 3rd party accessories on a subpar ar15 clone and charged prices that you would expect to pay for something from much better ar15 makers

if you really gotta have the ruger label and you dont care your getting less bang for the buck for the ruger stamp go for it. i just regret wasting money on it.

Some like it, some hate it. I'm personally not sold on it but that's just my opinion.

I think you can do much better for the same money.

Agreed.

Personally, I'm not sold on the gas piston AR's. DGI was a quantum leap forward in weapon controlability and weight reduction. The only justification for a piston is ease of cleaning but you can accomplish the same thing with a hard chrome plated bolt/bolt carrier group in a standard DGI AR.

Tack

This is the bottom line, there are better ARs for the money. Also (with a nod to your thread title) they are American made as well. Most ARs are.
