I agree with letting a gunsmith do the job. If not done right and the gas hole in the barrel is not lined up with the one in the new low-pro gas block your AR won't cycle right. I'm not sure how universal the fit is on different brands of AR gas blocks. I've heard thet sometimes the existing hole has to be welded shut and a new one drilled for the new gas block to be installed.

Some people use a Dremmel tool to remove the upper portion of the A2 front sight and also cut-off the bayonet lug to create their own version of a low-pro gas block. That is the process I refer to as butchering.

I've got to agree with Snake, why take a hammer to a used upper when for about the same money you can get something new built to your specs. I like the standard FSB and it won't get in the way of most scopes. Your choice, your call of course.

........and that way it comes with a factory guarantee.

RRA has free shipping on their uppers too. Mine took 5-weeks to arrive last fall. Now, it will take a little longer, but you'll be happy with the product you receive.

You may want to check on this.

It's a bit more, yes, but it's ready to ship and has a nice rail on it as well.

And...a page of them for you to browse and see what you like. Obviously, you'd want to call and get it tweaked, but they are in stock on many good choices.

Don't forget to include the extra $45 for the permanently attached flash hider unless you want to do the $200 tax stamp NFA deal with the ATF.
