I would think the Colt would be easier to sell, and hold its $$$, If you ever decided to get rid of it....

Get the Colt 6920 unless you want midlength. If so look at BCM, DD and PSA.

I'd buy a 6920 long before I'd buy a Rock River if both were the same price. The 6920 is worth the 1K asking price, in my opinion.

I prefer the pencil barrel AR carbines to heavy or government profile barrels because I won't be mounting a grenade launcher, I don't do mag dumps, and the carbine isn't a sniping rifle. My Colt 6520/6720 can hit a playing card at 100 yards all day, every day with iron sights or optics and that's as much accuracy as a civilian home defense carbine will ever need.

If you ever buy/sell/trade, as others have stated, Colt's hold their value.

If the Colt carbine came with PMAG's and the Rock River came with USGI mags, it would make the choice even easier for me.

If you have a 6920, all you need are PMAG's, an Aimpoint, BUIS, ammo and it's off to the races.

I'm not sure why Colt still includes the carry handle rear sight unit with the 6920. The whole point to buying a flat top carbine is to mount optics, which means you'll need a folding rear BUIS unit of some kind. That's my only complaint against the 6920- it should come with the MaTech unit that the military uses.

If Colt was really smart and put a rear QDS mount point in the lower, then I'd say a 6940 was more GTG from the box than a 6920.

If you won't shoot past 200 yards or so and don't plan to mount a lot of crap on your AR, I'm not sure what the 6940 does that the 6920 won't do.

Neither is a bad choice. Nor is either what I would choose for similar money.

If you have no interest in building....advantage goes to RRA if you don't mind a heavy rifle and are looking to shoot really tight groups especially from a stationary position. RRA offers a tremendously accurate and often heavy rifle at a fair price. If you want something a little lighter/tougher/versatile/milspec...advantage Colt. I would prefer spending an extra $200 to get into a DD for a similar rifle, but that's simply about personal preference.

Your money, your gun. Buy what you'll enjoy most.

DD? Check.
BCM? Check. Check, check, check.

Funny how those brands always come up on this forum.

I think it is rightfully so. I would add Spikes Tactical to that list except for the lack of choice. They don't have a lot of models to choose from.

Spike's stuff is rock solid. Just a few months ago you could get a complete 16" ML upper (with BCG and MOE handguard!) for a little north of $500 or one of their M16 BCGs for like $120. Granted, you often had to respond to an email alert within seconds to secure them at those prices. They generally offer a very good product at great price.

Their M16 BCGs are outstanding...and about as easy to find as fresh unicorn steak.

Ether gun is a top quality weapon and quite frankly, I would rather have a gun assembled by a professional armorer at a bench vs. an assembly line weapon. So my choice is Rock River Arms due to the fact ,most of the parts come from the same place as the other one from the same manufacturers who is not Colt . In fact Colt has been known to purchase parts from RRA. Most RRA Models come with the 2 Stage National Match Trigger, Star Selector Switch, Rock River Hogue Rubber Pistol Grip, Side Sling Swivel, Guaranteed 1 MOA Accuracy and limited lifetime warranty. So no doubt if it was my first gun and I made a choice, my first choice would be RRA even though I have both and as I stated they are both good guns. But the Rock River AR being of Lesser quality! NOT!
Just an opinion backed by some considerations. Buy what you like best!
