Default Riflelength handguard

I put a mid length yhm diamond series handgaurd on my 16" barrel but I'm not happy with it. It is too short. Does anyone know how long a rifle length handgaurd is. I saw an ar with one that covered almost the complete 16" barrel. I'm trying to do the same but was just curious on the length of

You'll likely need a low profile gas block and a new front sight.

midwest inudstries and troy make 12 and 15 inch free float handguards.

check on ebay as well, i just bought a 12 inch free float handguard for $51 shipped while i throw together my build and figure out how long a rail i want. like stated above, you'll most likely need a low pro gas block (i'd go with steel) and a new gas tube.

and yeah, pics would help too

I cut down and ground off a mil spec front sight to make a low pro gas block on a mid length carbine. Then I installed a rifle length YHM tube with the end cap, worked pretty slick.

I tried something similar on a carbine, but a mid-length tube is not long enough to accommodate the end cap.

I have the diamond profile YHM as well. I have it on a 16" bill barrel and it is just long enough to clear the low profile gas block with the end cap screwed in. Here's the length information on each model from Midway USA.

Handguard Lengths:
Pistol Handguard-4.15"
Carbine Handguard-7.2"
Mid-Length Handguard-9.2"
Specter/Extended Carbine Handguard-9.7"
Rifle Length-12.5"

Rifle length handguards look awesome on a shorter barrel and I like having the extra rail space.

MMMM secsi Havoc.

I've used the JP handguards and found them too fat. I wear a size large/xlarge glove.

The Samson Evolution and Rainier Arms are about the same in thickness as the Troy Alpha Vtac that I had, very comfortable.

The Daniel Defense Lite quad rail is suprisingly light, for a quadrail, and very comfortable with ladder rails sections.

Mi SS gen2 is narrower still, and very very comfortable. The best I've felt so far.

ONe thing to keep in mind tho, the thinner and lighter you go, the faster it heats up, but conversely the faster it cools down.

as for the

Noveske NSR
Geissele SMR series
Fortis REV

I haven't had the pleasure yet....
