I wanted to stock them in the shop but my boss missed the opportunity. They were extremely popular when they came out. There should be reviews all over YouTube.
I believe there were a few minor complaints but besides that a great gun for the money.

Are they still in the $700 range?

You could probably do better building one assuming you can get the parts. I would shop around and see if you can find it for under the $1000 mark. If it is what you want, go for it.

It's a Bushmaster wearing BDUs. Remington recently tried to go to war but lost the M4 contract to FN so I imagine it's business as usual in Ilion, NY.

Anyway, no special reason to buy the Remington AR.

I would recommend starting by picking a caliber and making sure you can get hands on a lower and bolt carrier group.
Backorder should be avoided.

Palmetto State Armory. Best place to find stuff in stock to build an AR. Get a stripped Lower, Lower Build Kit, Bolt Carrier Group, Charging Handle and Barreled Upper Assembly.

Add accessories and sights/optics. Build done.
