Rear sight on AR

Is there any real reason to have BUIS on my AR? I'm switching back and forth between an EOTech and a Nikon Monarch 5-20x42 scope, and I carry extra batteries in the stock for the EOTech....so why would I want a rear BUIS, short of a SHTF situation?

You dont need them.........until you need 'em:D
SHTF If something breaks, batteries run dead at least your not point shooting until you get your optic back up running.
If you're just hunting or target shooting Id say forget 'em.
If its going to be possibly used for defense, Id say get BUIS and practice with them in case the time comes you have to rely on them

Good advice, thanks Gate.

course you can just sight in the iron sights then record which rail they on and remove em. i did that for my SR556, while it has the mark 4 leupold cqt on it the iron sights are in the gun cabinet. putting em on takes only a few seconds and there is no zero to worry bout. the cqt works with or without batteries.

Just my .02, but I say get some flip down sights, sight them in, flip them down so they are out of the way and forget about them....just like the Geico gecko..they will be there IF and WHEN you need them. ;)

You can get a set of flip down sights for as little as $29, that's pretty darn cheap insurance.

I found a cool flip-down polymer rear sight by Magpul. $59.00.

Bottom line, I am going to quote a good friend who has a lot of operational experience on several continents.

"One is None"

If you have one of something, that one thing can break or fail.

There is no reason NOT to have BUIS in my opinion. What if you slip, fall on the weapon and mess up the mount?? *Click, click* and you are back in business.
