I guess I'll have to postpone buying it for a while until I can gather the shekels.

But what a Rifle! The Colt LE 901-16s. Comes standard in 7.62X51 NATO, with free floated barrel, flip up BUIS and other goodies. But ]most important, it will accept any Colt 5.56X45 upper. One lower, and uppers in both calibers!

Even if I have to wait until next year to get it, I think it will be worth waiting for.
You got time. The 901 hasnt hit the market yet and may not till later in the year.

Budget in the 1,000-1100 range. Looking primarily for a SHTF/SD/battle rifle (therefore the chrome) but want reasonable accuracy. Don't need the accuracy of a pure match rifle, but want good combat accuracy.

Right now, I'm leaning toward the Colt. But I want to spend some more time re-reading your responses, and studying. Thank you all very much, BTW!
I know some here may not agree, but the Rock River is a good rifle that is in tha price range. It has very good accuracy and is reliable.

Im about 90% sure i want a rra 308 but that wont be till later in the year. Rra barrels are better than what colt uses accuracy wise.

There are no standards for ar10 type rifles so you really have to look hard to be sure what your getting fits your intended usage.

My complaint with the 901 is the short 16inch barrel. I just dont think its really enough running room for a 308. Just my pref tho lots like the shorties

Jon, I have a 16 inch barrel on my 7.62 DPMS LR 308 AP4.

Like you, I was a bit chary about a barrel that short in 7.62. But after using it, I am sold on 16 inch barrels. Given the choice, I would probably opt for 18 inches, but the 16 works very well.

Actually, I'm pretty well satisfied with the little DPMS, but I guess I just want the Colt for "snob appeal."

I guess that makes me a "bad person" but what the hell!
