Default question about converting a 22lr AR-15

I have been looking at buying an AR-15 however I cannot afford the $1100-$2500 they are going here in Billings, MT. I got the idea of getting one of the Chiappa .22lr Ar-15s and converting it to .223. Anyone done this or know if it would safely operate.

I have not shot an AR-15 type rifle since I got out of the Army and have been wanting one ever since.

Sorry, no can do- for a couple of reasons.

First, the upper/lowers have different dimensions. Won't fit.

Second, the .22 LR is a simple blowback operation. Does not have or need a buffer. .223 has got to have a buffer- and there is no place to install one.

Hang on to your dollars a little longer and you will find one. Guns shows and auctions are still showing some stupid prices, but I'm starting to see multiple brands showing back up on store shelves. DPMS Panthers are $899 in Scheels.

Keep visiting your local big gun stores. Prices are coming back to reality.
