Which primer question
I'm just starting to reload some 223 55 g. Fmjbt With H335. And have a question on primers do I use the standard small rifle primer or the magnum primer? I have read both can be used.
Sorry cant find a reload site on gun forum

If you are shooting a semi auto, you want magnum or military primers. CCI and Wolf make military primers.
AR style rifles have firing pins that are free floating and will strike the primer when the bolt is closed on a live round. The primers I listed are thicker and less likely to detonate due to the free floating firing pins.
If you use a bolt gun, standard primers are fine.

Yes this is my first load so I'm totally new I got a pound of H335 and some Sierra blitz 55 gr FMJ/bt to start with. I chose 335 because of its popularity of it . There's a lot o recipes for it. Any recipes are welcome. By the way it's a 16in 1 to 9 twist. Now that i know to use the military primer i will use the CCI primer Thanks in advance

Lyman manual does not show magnum primers being used with any load. Their test gun was a Colt AR 15.

i think the magnum is suggested to make sure all the powder is burned evenly.. like i said up there^. i use standards, and they work just fine.

The Remington #7 1/2 small rifle primer is MilSpec. The #9 1/2 large rifle primer is also MilSpec.
CCI makes special order MilSpec priners as well, but I've never used them
For 5.56X45 I use Remington 7 1/2 exclusively.
