Well got my lower receiver finally! But I'm waiting until after Christmas to get the lpk. And I already picked out my complete upper, gonna probably how with s&w or cmmg. Question though, what calibers will fit a standard receiver as far as mag well? I'm just curious as I may get multiple uppers beside 5.56. Maybe something bigger to hunt with?

A lot of calibers will fit the 5.56 magwell. Length is the problem, the overall length of a 5.56 with a 77-80 grain bullet is about all you can go.

A .308 and other long rounds will require an AR-10 style rifle which isn't compatible with the AR-15, unless you spring for a Colt 901 Modular Carbine .308/.223.

What about magazines etc? Will I need to buy new mags for each different round? Also can you suggest a possible caliber to hunt with? State law requires larger round than 22 diameter. If I'm not mistaken that rules out 223.

Well one reason the 300 BLK is liked so much is it's made from the same casing as 5.56 but necked up to 30 caliber. It uses all the same parts as a 5.56 except for the barrel. Even the same BCG and magazines. Depending on the load it performs something like the 30-30 or 7.62x39.

Doublecheck your state law, it may exclude .22 rimfire but not .223 centerfire. Many states allow .223.

Website says .23 caliber or larger for deer hunting. I'm sure for yotes they won't have a problem with 556

Does it say .23 or .223 for deer? .223's true caliber is .224 but that's still smaller than .23".

Says it must bet .23 or larger. I think I'm going to look at 6.8 or maybe 7.62x39
