If possible, hang on to the sks. Prices on ARs have been falling. I expect they will drop even more.

They are not going to fall much further.
I challenge the ability to just pick up the phone and buy an Olympic for 700 also.

Maybe if you closely watch slick guns for a couple months and immediately call when its in stock...

with the ammount of folks that panic bought an AR i firmly believe we will see the bottom drop out of the used AR15 market in pretty short order.

My first AR was an Olympic. The only price if it that I still have is the barrel. The bolt broke before it had 1000 rounds through it. The carrier was not chrome lined. The gas key was not staked. They used cast front sight bases. Mag well was tight. Receiver pin holes were not exactly machined in the right locations, making for an incredibly tight fit for upper and lower that required tools to get apart for cleaning.

The barrel has been very accurate, which is why I kept it and parted out the rest.

As prices and parts availability get better, you could price together a better AR than an Oly.

But really wanting to know if there a reliable A.R I've read they're prone to breaking but most threads were 10 to 15 yrs old didn't see much on them from recent yrs but like any mass produced product there will be flaws. I just don't want a lemon.. lol my buddy said it's a good one ...

They don't use parts made to as high a standard as many if their competitors. They cut cost in production by skipping a lot if the things that would add durability and reliability. They are a budget AR where cost were cut in some of the worst places to cut cost.

Keep the SKS. I am in agreement with everyone else who has replied.
