My first AR was an Olympic. The only price if it that I still have is the barrel. The bolt broke before it had 1000 rounds through it. The carrier was not chrome lined. The gas key was not staked. They used cast front sight bases. Mag well was tight. Receiver pin holes were not exactly machined in the right locations, making for an incredibly tight fit for upper and lower that required tools to get apart for cleaning.
The barrel has been very accurate, which is why I kept it and parted out the rest.
As prices and parts availability get better, you could price together a better AR than an Oly.
