Offer/Thoughts for ar-15 Upper

im currently gathering information for owning an ar-15. i was offered a brand new colt complete a2 upper 20 in. barrel and 1/9 twist for $700. anybody know if this is a good price?

also, can anyone recommend a good lower?? thanks for the help.

I'm not sure if Colt's uppers are any better the Rocks'. You can get a new mid length A2 upper from Rock for around $500.00. As for lowers, stick with a name brand. As always, you get what you pay for IMHO.

That is "Way Way" too much money. And it is an A-2 Upper on top of it which locks you in pretty much as far as putting optics or a scope on it.

Sorry I left the other question out on my previous post!
In my opinion,
You have three choices:

#1. Buy a complete lower from a reputable company making a point of a good company. Like Rock River, Stag, LMT, CMMG. Spikes and others.
or
#2 Buy a stripped lower from one of the above high quality company brands and build you own or have a buddy build it for you. There are enough of us here on this forum that can guide you through it.

#3. Buy the complete rifle. But recommendation is to get one with the A-4 Upper. Then if you prefer the A-2 Sight and Carry Handle you can get a removable A-2. Same with the upper Go A-4.

It is a good idea building up a stripped lower (and most are plenty good) then buying a good factory assembled upper to finish your rifle. But I also think that's too much for an A2 upper. Also today an A3/A4 upper with removeable iron sights makes a lot of sense.

Take a look at the stickies and other threads on builds that members have done here. Lots of good ideas and decisions!

thats pretty damn pricey. collector colts like old good condition sp1 only run in the 1200-1500 range. the a2 uppers arent collector pieces.

The handle on the rifle in question is removable. Would it still be better to go a4? Only reason I'm asking if the price is good is because I hear colts are expensive to begin with.

your only a few bucks shy of a full rifle at 700$ thats too much for a upper unless its gor an air gauged barrel or some other fancy feature.

Thanks for the help and advice guys. Much appreciated.

A complete Colt can be had for just over $1000. Id take that
$700 and add $100 +/- call up Spikes and get yourself a complete 16" midlength rifle.
