I don't have a lot of experience reloading rifle rounds. Matter of fact, I don't have any at all. I don't have a case trimmer or even powder scales. I just reload plinking ammo and I'm not overly concerned about how accurate the charges are since I'm on the low end of the spectrum anyway. My Lee Auto Disk measurer gets close enough for me.

That's why I was trying to stick with some either A) cheap enough to not have to reload or B) something not too terribly difficult to reload for like the .30 Carbine.

I have a 5.45x39 which is accurate & cheap to shoot. I bought the rifle from S&W. I use classic Wolf ammo in 70 grs.

Okay. Stupid question, and I will punch myself in the face once I'm done posting... If you use a 5.45x39 upper, do you need special magazines, or do the ak style magazines work?

You need special mags. Sorry about the delay. I had knee replacement surgery which put me out of action. Konrad

you want cheap...5.45x39.

if you want 7.62x39 get the 300 bo instead and just use it as a sub 200 yard deer harvester.

if you want long range go 6.5 grendel.

or you can just stick with the 5.56/.223 and use specialized hunting rounds and cheap...well maybe not right now cheap...plinker ammo when you feel the need to bumpfire.
