Do what i did and go with an alexander arms .50 beowulf upper.

Yeah. Beautiful, short range, "Devestation" round.

But not what the OP is looking for I am afraid.

I am still thinking and researching myself. I am at a loss to get the right combo at the moment.

An AR-57 upper would be fine for plinking but I don't know for deer hunting. The .243 or 6mm would be good for deer. Any ammo in the .400-.500 class coast to much so forget about it.

A lot of people think highly of the 300BLK, it's similar to the 7.62x39 but fits in standard 5.56 mags and use the same bolt too. A little expensive but the situation may improve over time.
