IM looking into getting a new upper for my AR. Right now i have a S&W M&P that is all original. The upper on it works great but i want something to go with my current 16" barrel as more of a precision setup. IM lookin at a Giesell trigger but not sure which one yet and want a varmint upper with a 20" barrel. So my question is who makes a good Varmint upper? Ive been looking at the RRA.

What distances are you planning on shooting?

What kind of rounds are you planning on shooting?

Will you be luggin the rifle around alot? (do you care if its heavy?)

Figure out what kind of barrel you want then start looking for something that fits the bill.

I would say from the feedback on this forum that you are looking in the right place for a varm upper, trigger and upper.

This will be more of a range upper. I want a 20" or maybe a little longer heavy barrel. As for ammo ill shoot whatever is most accurate since ill still have my 16" upper for blasting 5.56 rounds away. I just want sonething more accurate out to 300 yards maybe a little farther.

rra uses wilson(nothing to do with the wilson company that makes 1911 and 1911 parts) air gauged cryogenic treated barrels in their varmint guns. i dont think you can beat the rra pricepoint for the quality precision uppers they make.

my personal opinion as to barrel length, anything over 20" serves no real purpose in a 5.56 .223

I was just lookin at the RRA and they are about $630 for a 20" heavy barrel varmint upper.

ArmaLite also uses Wilson Arms barrels. Mine weighs a ton but is accurate.
