Need some help with AR10

Neighbor wants me to help him build an ar10 in .308. I'm very familiar with ar15 but not a clue on the other. Does the ar15 lower fit 10 uppers. What is compatible an what's not? And finally, who has things like the bolt, bolt carrier, barrel, upper receiver and the like? And also are they even gas impingement systems?

From my understanding all AR10 equipment is specific and not interchangeable with a AR15. Talk him into a AR15 300BLK.

There is no comparison here. The .300 BLK doesn't come anywhere near even being close to the 7.62X51

Two entirely different classes of rifle.

I know that but it is a great round. It will work for hunting very well in deer sized animals. Just a thought.

well, the parts all look the same but no. you can NOT use any ar15 parts for the ar10. also ive been told that ar10 parts are lots more picky when it comes to parts that work good together.

The parts between the AR-15 and AR-10 are not interchangeable.

It's sort of like a handgun in 9mm vs 45acp. Everything pretty well functions the same (to my knowledge), but the parts are sized up for the larger caliber. So you're dealing with a different fit when it comes to the upper, lower, BCG, etc. No interchangeability, except for maybe a few of the oddball smaller parts.

And most of the 7.62 stuff costs about 50% more than the 5.56.

But a well-built AR-10 can be hella accurate for up to 1000yds...in the hands of someone with far more skill than I.

not only do ar15 parts and ar10 parts not go together...there are two non-compatible ar10 formats as well (DPMS and Armalite). Your best bet is to buy a complete rifle or really think about what components you want and stick to either the DPMS format or the Armalite format.

Thanks guys. That's all I needed. :)

Lol. Everyone is wrong and right at the same time.

The problem with the ar10 platform is that there are a few different standards and parts are not interchangeable between the vrious types. Some ar15 parts are interchangeable with ar10 but not all. There are different magazines recievers etc. If your going to build one, be sure to research compatibility of components thoroughly.
