I prefer flip up sights when using an optic. They make for a cleaner sight picture.

As you can see there is a difference of opinion, which is why DD has different versions. I prefer the fixed front sight and flip up rear. You might want to check out ARs in a gun shop and see which you prefer before choosing. Doesn't have to be a DD of course just to check out sights.

FYI, V1 front sight is attached to the barrel just like V2 and V3.
Everyone had to started somewhere as newbie too, like me still a newbie.

thanks for all the info, yep this is what makes the ar 15 so fun..different strokes for different folks...,,,kinda sucks where im located, no real good place to try out the top of the line ar.....mostly lower grade stuff...would be real nice to try out the dd myself;;;thats why im picking your knowledge...and again thanks... so if i have a fixed front site and a scope is it difficult to focus on the red dot .. .or is it a helper.... i realize people will have different views on this but i can weigh out the opions...cory

If you have a fixed front sight and a scope. You will barely notice or see the front sight post from the scope. It will not interrupt your views from it. Or maybe you should consider the V4, which you can take off the DD front sight whenever you want.
