Default Narrowing the Choices

I'm planning to buy an AR to be used primarily for plinking and home defense. My budget is $1,500.

While I consider myself savvy when it comes to pistols and shotguns, I'm basically clueless when it comes to AR's.

I've been looking at the FN Scar but it's over my budget and I rarely see it mentioned on AR forums.

I don't want to heavily customize what I buy........maybe an upgraded trigger and optics.

Suggestions appreciated!

PSA has their patrol package for 999 and that leaves you room for some ammo. http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/featured/psa-16-hammer-forged-m4a1-patrol-rifle-package.html

... clueless when it comes to ARs

Then I would start by reading the above stickys, especially the AR Primer.
