It really wasn't difficult at all. But I do consider myself to be very mechanically inclined. I was an aircraft powerplant mechanic in a former life and have a nice selection of tools from that. Plus I'm pretty nit-pickey and detailed anyway, I've been in QC in the aerospace industry for 20+ years and I'm the chief inspector for our FAA Repair Station.

russ would you consider doing a lower receiver? i would like to see that. with the way you did the upper, i probably could finally build my next AR!

Axxe, there is a really good write up on AR15.com on building a lower. I used it for the first 3-4 lowers I built. I probably will do a new lower for this, but it will be a while. I kinda spent my gun money on the upper and have to let the fund replenish.

Great tutorial Russ, excellent write up and photos! Thank you for posting this and no doubt it will help anyone who's debating whether to build an upper. I hope it does become a sticky as a needed companion to JD's lower build.
