My newly built AR at the range

Well, took the new baby out today, dont have a scope yet so please keep that in mind when looking at the shooting. Just wanted to make sure it works well and shot straight.

Setting up for the shooting, "cold" range moment.

Getting ready for the "hot" range moment, here we go! 50 yard range.

First set of shots, waited for the "cold" range so I could get the target. Realized I had to move up and to the right. Right is no problem, but DANG IT I forgot my sight adjustment tool for the front sight! Wouldnt ya know it?!?!?! Adjusted the back and tried again. "HOT RANGE!"

Better, but realizing why these Magpul backup sights are called backup sights.......had to basically guess how far up I needed to go through the sights, couldnt even see the target because the front sight was covering it. MAN I have to get a scope on this thing!

Anyway, enjoy.

It works, no failures and you were pretty decently on paper at fifty yards the first time out. That sounds like a good first trial to me. You can make it more accurate as you go, but you have to start with a good stick. You built one. Congrats.

I shoot much better than that, embarrassing a bit. LOL! Just need that scope and a range finder to actually see where I am hitting....but thanks. Im proud of this thing. Several people came over admiring it.

No need to be embarrassed. In fact, I always second guess a target that has one hole. Awesome job and the AR is just beautiful. *respect*

I am a bit disappointed that it is not burnt orange.

Haha, trust me, I did think about that for a second or two. LOL!

It's a succesful build as far as I'm concerned! It cycled just fine and threw 'em all downrange. I've forgotten my FS adj. tool as well. . . and my range isn't in the neighborhood.

I would hope those Magpuls would be a little more "user friendly". :( They are not top of the line BUIS, but are supposed to be pretty good and GREAT for plastic. I have a set from Midwest industries that are just as good as any iron sights I've ever used on an AR, period. If the front sigtht diameter was too wide, you can always take a bit off the side with a Dremel (sanding bit) or replace the post.

Good job on the build! :)

Sweet AR and great range report!

What does a tight group at 50 yards look like with iron sights?
I want to get a benchmark for when I try to zero in. Right now
my paper looks like cddbrowns'

A live round works great for adjusting a FSP.

this is from my toss together A1 upper using a 1960's surplus 1:12 m16 barrel. its not the best barrel in the world for accuracy and needs to be retired to full auto duty:

But wouldn't that be your OWN range report?
