The biggest issue with assembling an AR isn't so much getting the parts together right - it's getting the right parts together. You'll remember the quality of a gun long after you forget how much you paid for it.

There is a market for the CHROME BCG. That "group" is going to shoot 8,000-10,000 rounds in a firefight, or over a weekend competition.

Outside of that, it's an option that is nice to have, but is far from "required' if you don't mind actually cleaning and getting involved in the maintanence of your weapon.

Look.

If you can afford a Ferrari, would you buy one? Now, if you can "only" afford an Audi RS6, but have been to Boundurant and you know how to drive??

Six of one, half a dozen of another OUTSIDE of the operator's ability to take care of the weapon.

Sorry, we kinda ignored you Jpyle... There are some high end chrome BCGs like Young that are much better than the DPMS but they're not better than standard phosphated BCM, DD, LMT and of course Colt (which just recently began selling their BCGs for about $180, a good price for Colt).

Chrome is slicker and easier to clean but if you spend much more than 10 minutes cleaning your BCG you're wasting your time. The main problem with chrome is that it's often used to plate a turd.

I have a Crest Ultra-Sonic System that I've sworn by since 2005. All my weapons have gone through it and it's extremely convenient to just come home, strip a weapon to bare components, through it in the tank and just walk away.

Yes. They are like a jewelry or "dentist" application. Mine is designed for home use and it's an incredible time and labor saving device.

All my weapons small components get run through it and I have yet to regret it.

Chrome BCG? Or an entire cleaning system that will clean all your small arms critical parts. The choice is up to you.

What cleaning fluid do you use in yours JD? I have one that I "inherited" from my last job, but no cleaning fluid.
