Muzzle brake or flash hider?

I decided I was going to build my upper instead of buying one due to finance issues and I could part it out over time like my lower. I have a DD stripped upper on back order and a BCM Mid-Length 14.7" light weight upper on order as well that will hopefully ship any time now. My question is, do I want a fixed muzzle brake or flash hider, which ones are best, and I'd like to keep it as close to 16" as possible

Battlecomp does well for both but cost is higher at about $150 but you get what you pay for. I got the battlecomp 1.5 on my 14.5 SS barrel and love it. It does have pretty heavy side blast tho if that matters to you but that's why is does so well with muzzle flip

I have an AAC blackout flash hider and I love it. I also have the AAC 51T brake on a 5.56 and a .308. They perform really well and reduce recoil quite a bit.

I'm still a huge fan of the standard M16/ M4 flash hider though. It works great.

Smith Vortex. Best money well spent on flash hider or muzzle break. Less than $60.

Here is the video of my SBR with Smith Vortex.

Smith is an awesome company. The vortex is a good buy. Smith sent free vortex flash hiders to joes overseas for a while.

I've looked at both the AAC and Smith and like them both. The Battlecomp is a little out of my budget right now. Is there sort of a hybrid type? Not a full on muzzle brake but one that does help reduce recoil without a huge flame? The only reason I ask this is because I'll be using this weapon a lot at night or dust/dawn lighting on hog hunts and don't want to blind myself

Just bought a Dynacomp but have not had a chance to use it yet.

If it's flash you are concerned about go with the Smith Vortex. FSC makes a hybrid that is so-so for muzzle rise, and flash suppression.

Like hoovco, I'm a big fan of the A2 birdcage, it's the best compromise and best price. Only costs ten bucks yet good flash suppression, low noise and isn't horrible as a brake.

You want to be sure the barrel actually is 14.7" because if it's any shorter then the A2 won't be long enough to reach a legal overall 16.01".

if you dont want to go with a nice threaded barrel i'd suggest the flash suppressor
