Default M4 in 7.62x39

Is the m4 / ar15 still as accurate and reliable in a 7.62x39 cartridge??

No, not beyond 50 yards.

I'd imagine it'd be a bit better than an AK type, due to the barrel, but even more than the gun, the biggest limiting factors are shooter then ammo.

Can't get more accurate then the shooters ability, then you're limited to the ammo's consistency. Then the gun factors come into play.

That is a thread from the other day discussing a new AR in 7.62x39mm. I like the idea.

By switching to 7.62, you gain a small amount of penetration, but lose 50 percent of the stopping power.

If you want an exotic upper, look at the 5.45X39. Just my $.02

50 percent of the "stopping power" lost? Last i heard, the big difference (.223 vs. 7.62x39) was that the early 7.62x39 military projectiles didn't yaw early enough in flesh to make big wound channels while the .223/5.56 military rounds had the tendency to fragment for a better wound channel, though i believe the .223 only reliably did this within some range or other.

I wonder, how would the ballistics compare on SP rounds?
