You should consider a standard AR then pick up an AAC 300 Blackout upper. Two guns in one.

Ah, reining it in a little, eh? Good for you. As far as the piston kit, wait. You can buy it later. Shoot the durn rifle you build first. Maybe you'll like it and can put what might be wasted money toward an optic or ammo or lots of magazines. Get the important stuff first!

Ever hear the old saying, "Chrome won't get you home"? (In reference to chrome plated crap on your hot rod or Harley doesn't make it run better.) Maybe we can update that here to "Bling won't bring you in".

I think I just coined a new phrase!

Well I threw in the m1a and acr in there because other than another ar those were my options. I can see what you are saying by swinging wildy to the extremes with my original post.

I want something reliable and heavier hitting than the 556. Id probably use it for some hunting on the farm and home protection.

Acr I chose because its modular and when the 6.8 barrel comes out I could get that and the bolt and switch calibers pretty quick.

The m1a, hard hitting .308 robust rifle.

You could go with the ACR if you increase your budget.

I could have the enhanced acr for around 1900. Scars are almost 3k, that's not happening.

I'm thinking about building a 6.8 with black rain matched receivers and I'm looking into a bison barrel.

What should I do for a bolt?

It's sounding like you'll end up with a nice 6.8, Wi_Hunter556!

I'm hoping so!

Are there any bolts in particular that I should look at? Seems from what I can find out a lot of guys go with the stag arms bolt.
