Leupold vs Nikon scopes

Just curious, I have a Leupold VX-1 3-9-40
Scope on my AR, and I noticed that a lot of you have Nikon scopes on yours. I figure there must be a reason for it, so I just wondered why so many of you have picked the Nikons!

For the money, the clarity, and light trasmission I get out of a Nikon is hard to beat. If it is going to be a hard use gun the warranty from Leupold may be worth the extra cost. If buying American is important, the Leupold is the way to go. The Nikons are made in the Philipines. Their higher end glass is still ground in Japan though on their pricier scopes.

Nikon makes good glass for a modest price. But really, all the big names have several different grades of scopes, so saying Leupold is better/worse than Nikon is not really a fair comparison.

Nikon Monarch will blow the doors off a Leupold VX-1 just like a Leupold VX-7 will blow the doors off a Nikon ProStaff.

i think many use the Nikon because they make a good scope that doesn't cost an arm and a leg to buy and they also make one specific for the AR in 223. Nikon makes a good scope. so does Leupold. usually Leupolds are priced higher.

I haven't priced the Nikons but I think I gave about $ 229.00 for my Leupold VX-1. I'm open to new things though if something else is better! I'd really like to have a red dot sight with some magnification of some kind, but most of those seem to be high dollar. But it would be nice to be able to use both eyes since I'm right handed and left eye dominant. I'm open to ideas from anyone, and I appreciate everyone's input.
