Default Joining the ar15 build band wagon

Well guys you did it... you finally got me to start my very own ar15 build.
I hope you are happy, ordered all the parts for my lower, upper is next.
Starting with a Wilson Combat lower and parts kit, magpul grip and buttstock figure a good core is the way to go.
Time will tell

Me too. Sounds interesting, and I wanna see a pic of this awsomeness.

FWIW- Lower receivers/parts kits are often vastly overrated. Functionally speaking...a good lower is a good lower. Whether it set you back $40 or $400, it'll perform the same. That's also true of most LPKs, apart from the trigger.

I believe one of the best deals out there right now is a PSA/Magpul complete lower (CTR/STR/ACS stock) for under $250 after all shipping and fees. But for special projects, I can certainly appreciate the desire to have a higher end or uber-cool lower.

For your upper half- I recommend you figure out what you want (and want to spend), do a bit of research and ask questions on this board, and get acquainted with BCM and PSA.

As soon as it comes in Ill give you guys a tour, I have an idea of uppers I want just need to save my pennies for it after that I will put you all through the painful process of seeing me put this thing together in the most noob way possible!
You guys are right I haven't seen/heard many people use WC lowers either but I like their work and figure there is no way this thing can be a piece of junk.
As I said time will tell, and if anybody else ever thinks about it here once I am done I can share my 2cents about it.
Horribly excited though, can't wait to get started!

Ok so I got my 1st round of Items home, tried to see how well the grip would fit in to the lower without applying a great deal of force and the damn thing is so tight I couldn't do it. Is this sort of "tight fit" normal for lowers and grips?

Yes its common. Bit of talcum powder eases the install. Just a teensy bit. Ive had to use a soft hammer to tap them in place on occasion.

It seems I am now discovering through my research that barrels shorter than 16" come with problems attached to them for being labeled SBR; making them harder to get. Is this a federal thing or does Texas let you just order one and you are good to go?
I was under the impression the lower was the only thing that needed an FFL, is there a special process to ordering these things online?
