Default I am very pleased I did not buy a 1911

And pieced together my first AR instead. All though...the charging handle did put me over my $1,000 budget.

I got a Colt 1911 40 years before an AR. Not recommending that of course!

1911 vs AR-15?

Not so long ago I had neither. Now I have both, and have strong feelings for both.

But the AR will better serve you during alien invasions, zombie outbreaks, social/economic colapses, and the coming 2012 apocalypse. Plus, the AR is far more prone to anti-gun legislation.

In other words, you made a fine choice!

All LMT except the charging handle (Noveske), UTG handguards, and a MagPul trigger guard. Honestly, I went to a gun show with 1911 on the brain. Prices and lines to purchase hand guns was crazy. Dejected at the insane prices, I see a LMT Defender lower ignored by most...and at a very good price. More? I'm still waiting on a high value low cost rear sight before taking my affair to the next level.

Thank you, both have called to me as well. The beauty of both made the decision difficult. I went with the AR because of price and the possibility of future regulation of this class of firearms.

Please don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with 1911s. In fact I like them very much and can foresee one in my armory in the future, but I'm not done with my AR stable.2 or 3 more...tops.....i think....damn I'm still sick aren't I

I drew (on paper) my (perfect) gun 40 years ago. Once my budget was allocated. Bang, you saw the almost final pic; I was blinded temporarily by the 1911 thing. Now, I' may need to finish with a nice 308... It could take me another 40 years., but I doubt it . What is your next build?

I've got 2 lowers in the works. One is going to be a lw 14.5" build. And the other.....I dunno yet prolly a precision lower ( it has a geissele SDE) and I'm not sure what type of upper. Maybe multiple uppers. Mebbe a 20" .223 wlyde, or 20" 6.5 Grendel or 16" .300bo (the latter two for hungting) bor hell mebbe all 3 uppers.......I dunno. Or I may swap out the 5.56 abrrel on my pistol for. 9" 300 bo for hunting (under 200 yards). These damn ARs, so many decisions.

The AR is definitely the platform of choice for serious social shooting!

If you want a .308, start saving for a "ready-made" Colt LE901.
