There is no game I repeat, absolutely NO GAME in Mississippi, the really needs anything bigger than a .30-06. Luckily, you find more sense than money in most of the places I frequent, and the most common in those areas are .243, .30-30, 7.62X39 (because the SKS is a common deer rifle around those parts) and .308, with a smattering of .270 and .30-06.
Lots of oil & gas pipelines in LA that make 7mm, 300 mag, come in handy. Although my 270 and 308 rifles have put lots of venison in my freezer.

The calibers we choose are what we like not what we need. Thats like saying no one needs a red headed woman because there are plenty of blonds? Humm I wonder?

I happen to really love my red head. And, I really enjoy talking to this old geezer I know, who has never hunted white tail with anything other than a .22 LR. He claims he's never lost one, and makes head shots only.

I think that it's technically legal in MS these days, but I know for sure that at one time it wasn't, and wasn't for a very long time. He didn't care. He said that's all he needed, a head shot within 75 yards or less and the deer doesn't take another step...

Needs and wants...

I have been friends w a few - Red Headed Women scare the bejesus out of me !

Trip: An old guy at my gun club used to drop deer w 22 Mag - head shots, short range between ear n eye or so he said. Pretty sure it's illegal throughout East Coast but he filled his freezer every year.

Likewise. I know a guy down the road that has hunted deer here in NY with a .22LR since he was 19.

Every year he gets one. Here in NY you need to use at LEAST a .243WIN....not that that really means much because a bigger number doesn't neccesarily mean better ballistics (Don't tell the libs that).

.22 goes in and their skulls are thick so it just bounces around.

.22 Hornet is a decent round as well. Scary accurate, and will do it's job if you do yours.

My debate/public speaking professor would flunk you.

What makes you say such a thing?
