I think you are right about having extras of the items of greatest importance. I suppose I was more responding to the OP's suggestion that he was going into debt to buy these things. I just think having one without debt is much better than two with debt.

Unless of course I found out that society was going to collapse, say, next week. Then it is off to Cabela's with my Mastercard!

That means once you have 2, you are fine. But if you find yourself with 3 you must get another one. 4 is divisible by 2, while 3 is not (evenly).
